Former world champion Viswanathan Anand continued his poor performance in the $ 1500,000 Legends of Chase online tournament. He suffered his sixth consecutive defeat against Russia’s Ian Nepomaniacchi 2-3. Anand started the sixth round with a draw. Anand showed good defensive play and after 53 moves both players agreed to the draw. The Russian player, however took the lead in the second game by winning in 34 moves, after which the third game was drawn.

Five-time world champion Anand returned and won the fourth game in 42 moves to pull the match into the tiebreaker. Napomaniacchi won the tiebreak 41 trick and broke the 50-year-old Indian veteran’s first win in the tournament. World champion Magnus Carlson retained the top spot with 17 points while maintaining the winning momentum. Nepomaniacchi is second with 16 points while his compatriot Vladimir Kramnik is third with 12 points. Anand is in ninth place with three points.
